Engineering: Apps for Engineers

Apps for Engineers

AutoCAD 360 (by Autodesk Inc.): the official AutoCAD® mobile app -- If you are an engineer, you most likely use some version of AutoCAD in your daily work life. This design software makes sketching out your ideas a breeze, and it is also offered in a mobile app. This app allows you to view and edit DWG files on your mobile device or tablet. Platforms available: Apple & Android

MathPix Problem Solver (by Mathpix):  the 1st app to let you solve and visualize math by photographing your handwriting (or pre-printed material too). The app will solve the math problem visually. Mathpix intends to replace graphing calculators and provide a free and fun learning expeirence for math students. Platforms available: Apple & Soon coming to Android

Engineering Professional (by Multieducator Inc): An engineer's dream app, Engineering Professional organizes every equation and formula from 6 of Muliteducator Inc's formulator apps (Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Hydrology, and Mechanical). The equations are laid out by engineering specialty and it includes over 650 individual formulas to solve all of your engineering problems. Platforms available: Apple

FingerCAD (by Gianluca Natalini): the 1st CAD application for technical drawings of houses, bridges, floor plans, mechanical components, geometrical figures or anything else that you could design using a common PC CAD program. This application is a useful tool for quickly designing floor plans and getting an idea for how a space will be laid out. It allows you design in 3D so you end up with quick and easy visuals while you are still onsite. Platforms available: Apple

Graphing Calculator (by Appcylon LLC): Replace your clunky TI-89 or Nspire graphing calculator with this handy app that will perform all of the functions you need. Whether you are working on homework or a practicing engineer in the field, this handy graphing calculator will prove to be a valuable tool. Platforms available: Apple

HVAC Professional (by Multieducator Inc): An app that focuses specifically on heating and air conditioning, it may also be useful for the occasional handyman around the house. Whether you are a HVAC professional or just someone trying to fix your broken A/C unit, the included 200 formulas will help walk you through the process and the complete International Mechanical Code will ensure that you are doing things correctly. Platforms available: Apple

iCircuit (by Krueger Systems, Inc.): As the premier app for designing and experimenting with circuits, iCircuit is also a great way to sketch circuits and components while you are in the field. The app also tests functions, checks voltages, and helps troubleshoot problems. Platforms available: All platforms

iEngineer (by Perfectly Simple Apps LLC): Possibly the most comprehensive database of screw and bolt specifications avaiable anywhere. It includes both US and Metric screw sizes plus tap information, clearance sizes, shear force capacities, unit conversions, and many other intricate features. Platforms available: Apple

LuxCalc Fluid Calculator(by Luxea): Mechanical engineers involved with thermal analysis, needing assistance with thermodynamics or fluid properties will want to make us of LuxCalc. The app's primary focus is calculating the thermophysical properties of various fluids within a high degree of accuracy. It works in both US and Metric measurements and it can graph the trend plots for changes in density, viscosity, thermal diffusivity, etc. Platforms available: Apple & Windows PC

Truss Me! (by Scientific Monkey LLC): This app was actually designed by a rocket scientist and helps your learn to design structures while you have fun. It's great to use on your break while still keeping your focus on work. Truss Me! is a fun game for everyone, engineer or not, that allows you to design and test structures. It offers up challenges to create stronger structures while also teaching you about the engineering process behind everything. Platforms available: Apple & Android
